About the event

PRO-active Integrative Hoof Care—1 day Intensive Event with Integrative Hoof Expert Beccy Smith BSc ADAEP EBW - Holistic Equine Podiatrist & Consultant

Prevention is always better than cure and this is now more relevant than ever with lameness on the increase! This course will help you become a more responsible horse carer by recognising signs of ill health earlier and facilitating well-being and lasting resilience in your horse from head to toe!

This is a very intensive and practical course & includes:

  • Ideal hoof proportions & healthy posture guidelines
  • Basic functional anatomy of the digit
  • Signs of pathology & distortions in the hoof
  • Basic hoof trimming tool use and horse handling
  • How to care for hooves between professional visits
  • Practice assessing, mapping and trimming on cadaver hooves
  • How to improve balance and resilience for soundness

No previous experience necessary. Suitable for horse owners, carers, riders & industry professionals

Beccy's approach to holistic horse and hoof care is unique and you won't learn her approach on other horse courses or events. Her approach is inspired by modern equine podiatry, barefoot and farriery industry leaders including KC LaPierre (The Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry), Yogi Sharp (The Equine Documentalist), Wayne Turner (Progressive Equine Services) and Daisey Bicking (Daisy Haven Farm) to name a few.

This is an intensive and fast paced educational event and we have limited the group to 5 to give you the best experience. The majority of the afternoon focuses on practical application of what you will learn in the morning and involves assessing, mapping and trimming cadaver hooves (hooves taken from deceased horses, frozen while still fresh and prepared for handling on the day). While you do not have to participate in cadaver trimming if you don’t want to, you will really benefit from assessing, mapping and observing others trimming.

For anyone wishing to participate in trimming, please bring your own rasp, gloves and trimming knife. We recommend waterproof or other protective clothing also. If you would like to purchase trimming tools and collect on the day, please email Beccy (info@holisticreflections.co.uk) with your order and we will send an e-invoice. Please browse our favourite trimming tools here: www.holisticequine.co.uk/shop
